HOUSE BILL 2278

Riverside Regional Jail Authority.

Patron: Riley E. Ingram

Summary: Adds sheriffs of the participating counties and cities as members of the Authority and establishes certain voting procedures. This bill is identical to SB 1231.

Note: Control of regional jail authority boards by participating sheriffs continues to be an important issue for VALECO and the Sheriffs Association.

 

 

HOUSE BILL 2340

Annexation moratorium.

Patron: S. Chris Jones

Summary: Extends the current moratorium on annexation proceedings until the sooner of July 1, 2010, or such time as the General Assembly fails to appropriate a yearly sum of money for aid to localities with police departments under the program initiated by House Bill 599 of 1979.

Note: This bill is identical to SB 1053 and SB 724.

 

 

SENATE BILL 724

Annexation moratorium; aid for localities.

Patron: Martin E. Williams

Summary: Extends the current moratorium on annexation proceedings until the sooner of July 1, 2010 or such time as the General Assembly fails to appropriate a yearly sum of money for aid to localities with police departments under the program initiated by House Bill 599 of 1979.

Note: This bill is identical to SB 1053 and HB 2340.

 

 

SENATE BILL 819

Code of Virginia general definitions; electronic records.

Patron: Patricia S. Ticer

Summary: Expands the definitions of "written," "writing," writings," and "in writing" in Title 1 of the Code to include electronic representations of words, letters, symbols, numbers, or figures. The bill also permits the Commonwealth's public bodies to accept electronic filing of information. The bill stipulates that unless otherwise provided for in the Code, electronic filing in the courts remains subject to the Rules adopted by the Supreme Court of Virginia.

Note: The bill is a recommendation of the Joint Commission on Technology and Science.

 

 

SENATE BILL 937

Local liability insurance.

Patron: Mary Margaret Whipple

Summary: Allows localities to provide liability insurance to members of commissions and boards, in addition to employees and volunteers.

 

 

SENATE BILL 1053
