Girls and Young Women
Introduction
Although there may be sites designed for girls and young women that stimulate the mind, I have not been able to find them. Most of the sites designed for that age group try to sell them some product or another, encourage them to yearn for no more than baubles for their hair, teach them that their roles in life are to be a wife and a mother.
As with the other sections at Sunshine for Women, our section on girls and young women will talk about women of accomplishment. Every so often, two parts will be added. I would like to hear from you about the format, whether it works for you or not.
The first part provides a narrative about a woman of accomplishment and some background information. Girls, and maybe some young women, will find the language too haard to read and so will require an adult guide to go on this journey of exploration with them. The site is ideal for grandma or grandpa who would like to entertain a little one. The site is designed so that the topic can be explored in bits and pieces since children have short attention spans. Links take you to other sited that have a lot of color pictures.
The second part is a link to an on-line biographical dictionary of women of accomplishment in some area. Because I want to expose girls and young women to women of accomplishment in as many aspects of life as possible, the topic for the selected biographical dictionary will generally be unrelated to the topic in the first part. These entries are just for fun, sort of a collection of interesting tidbits for students of women's history.

Sunshine for Women encourages you to support our feminist sisters by purchasing their books, reading them, disseminating the ideas they contain, but most especially, by making their book available to our sisters, our daughters, and the community at large by requesting your school library, your public library, and area bookstores to carry their books. Remember it is not enough to write literature, history, and theology, we must pass these works on to future generations. Help us to preserve these works for a new generation by putting them on library bookshelves.
