Historic Marker Commemorating MJG Unveiled

Dear Friend of the Matilda Joslyn Gage Foundation:

On October 9 we dedicated a blue and gold historic marker in front of the home of Matilda Joslyn Gage at 210 East Genesee St. in Fayetteville, New York, followed by a reception in the parlor of the house where this noted suffragist lived from 1854-1898. The Foundation hopes to buy the house and turn it into an historic site.

We Concluded By Singing "The Battle Hymn Of The Suffragists", which was written in Memory Of Matilda Joslyn Gage:

They come from every nation, women fair and strong and brave,
They come with zeal so holy all the weaker ones to save.
To turn the helpless children back from darkness and the grave;
Their cause is marching on.

CHORUS: Glory, Glory Hallelujah.
Glory, Glory Hallelujah.
Glory, Glory Hallelujah.
Their cause is marching on.

They will not be disheartened by the taunts and jibes and jeers
Of those who would oppose them, for they've lost the foolish fears
That once belonged to women, the women of past years,
And their hearts are brave and strong.

REPEAT CHORUS.

They hope to make the women stand for all that's just and right,
And so they wage their warfare keen with all their woman's might.
Hoping soon injustice will give place to freedom bright,
And their great cause be won.

REPEAT CHORUS.
