Mischief

An e-mail message showed up in my mail box on Sept. 14, 2001, just a couple of days after the tragedy at the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Here is what Michael Sansone wrote:

Not being one to post hate-filled messages, I replied.

"Michael,

Please explain your statement. I am completely baffled.

Sunny"

To wit Mr. Sansone replied,

My final response follows:

Michael,

I remember the article in question very well. Bill Bennett, Mr. Morality himself, was on a rant about Clinton and his tawdry affair and the way he handled it being the downfall of all morality in America. Hogwash. My response was not hatred, I was merely pointing out that Bill Bennett, like most of his Republican friends, is a hypocritical ass.

I have put together just a couple of samples of real hatred from just the last few days for your reading pleasure.

September 12 09:47 PM EDT, THIS IS WAR By Ann Coulter

"This is no time to be precious about locating the exact individuals directly involved in this particular terrorist attack. Those responsible include anyone anywhere in the world who smiled in response to the annihilation of patriots like Barbara Olson."

Is that so? Tell me, Michael, do you think that anyone who SMILES in response to the death of a "patriot" like Barbara Olson deserves to die? Frankly, Barbara Olson's death probably improved the world. It certainly made it less confrontational and less emotionally damaging to people who disagreed with her.

Coulter continues, "We don't need long investigations of the forensic evidence to determine with scientific accuracy the person or persons who ordered this specific attack."

Now that is what I call Republican justice. Maybe Democrats should get on-line and start writing things like, "We don't need long investigations of the forensic evidence to determine with scientific accuracy the person or persons who ordered this attack on an abortion provider." Or isn't Republican justice not good enough for Republicans?

Not yet satisfied with making an ass of herself, Coulter continues, ". . . We should invade their countries, kill their leaders and convert them to Christianity. We weren't punctilious about locating and punishing only Hitler and his top officers. We carpet-bombed German cities; we killed civilians. That's war. And this is war."

By the way, when are you going to enlist to help fight this war or are you going to leave the coming home in body bags business to those American's with brown skin?

For another selection, on "The 700 Club" on Sept. 13, 2001, The Reverend Jerry Falwell said in reference to the events of Sept 11, "The ACLU's got to take a lot of blame for this...throwing God out successfully with the help of the federal court system, throwing God out of the public square, out of the schools. The abortionists have got to bear some burden for this because God will not be mocked. And when we destroy 40 million little innocent babies, we make God mad. I really believe that the pagans and the abortionists and the feminists and the gays and the lesbians who are actively trying to make that an alternative lifestyle...all of them who have tried to secularize America. I point the finger in their face and say, 'You helped this happen.'"

Do you really think feminists, homosexuals, liberals, and civil libertarians brought this tragedy upon America?

You don't have any idea of what hate speech is. Write me when you get back from a tour of duty in Afghanistan freeing the women and children suffering under the control of the Taliban. Maybe I'll have time for your tripe.

Sunny

Sunshine for Women encourages you to support our feminist sisters by purchasing their books, reading them, disseminating the ideas they contain, but most especially, by making their book available to our sisters, our daughters, and the community at large by requesting your school library, your public library, and area bookstores to carry their books. Remember it is not enough to write literature, history, and theology, we must pass these works on to future generations. Help us to preserve these works for a new generation by putting them on library bookshelves.
