Hi, Sunny!

The one aspect of the abortion issue that i've seen *no* one address is what happens to the human *soul* of the aborted fetus.

For those who *believe* in the existence of a soul -- surely the Ultimate *Fate* of that soul is what is of *most* importance.

First one would have to establish when the soul takes up residence in the body -- if that is what is happening... Conception? 3 months? 6? Birth? 3 days *after* birth? (i've seen different "authoritative" -- in the way they were presenting themselves -- claims; and they did *not* agree!)

My owne current perspective is the the soul is *larger* than the body, *precedes* the body, in a sense helps *grow* the various bodies it manifests into -- & that doubtlessly only *part* of the soul is even *in* any particular body. (But, sometimes, i play around with the light*spark *trapped* in the body Gnostic idea -- since i enjoy thinking within that particular paradigm, too...)

Anyway, assuming the soul is in the body at conception -- what *is* going to happen to the souls of the abortions?

As best i'm aware, Protestant Christians are going to tend to say that that soul never *had* a chance to "sin" so it's going to go directly to Heaven to live forever with Jesus.

Wow! In Monopoly terms -- that soul -- by *being* aborted -- just got a "Get Out Of (earthly) Jail Free" card AND "Go Directly to GO and collect Eternal Life -- Forever After!"

What a "Consolation Prize" for having gotten aborted!

And all those souls that didn't *luck out* to that degree -- who actually got born? Well, within the context of fundamentalist Christian theology at least 50% if not 90% of *them* will end up in Eternal HELL! ;)

Assuming there is anything *but* pure fantasy involved in the fundamentalist Christian scenario -- it is *obvious* that the Devil reaps FAR more souls when there is NO ABORTION! Every abortion means another one *got away* from him! Every *non*-abortion means he's got a 50 to 90% chance of *harvesting* _that_ one!

So -- within that context, obviously no one in the entire *universe* is more AGAINST ABORTION than Satan, himself! And why would Jesus or God the Father have any reason to be against it at all -- if it means *They* get that soul?!

Roman Catholics believe the aborted soul goes to limbo, rather than purgatory?

Of course the notion that God can't allow an innocent soul into Heaven because a Roman Catholic priest didn't baptize it is so ludicrously self-serving that *that* priesthood should be given the jackass-laugh from Here to the Limbo *they* (doubtlessly) deserve for teaching such bullshit...

From a reincarnationist perspective -- abortion only means a *postponement* of incarnation. No big deal. You'll probably get a better set of parents next-time-around *anyway* -- one or two who really *want* ya & may well provide a more postively-nurturing environment!

So from the context of what happens to the human soul the only group that would *sensibly* be adamantly AGAINST all abortion would be the atheists & agnostics who don't believe a soul even *exists*! If ya got *one* chance at life & that is the *only* life you'll ever have -- then, indeed, abortion *has* cost that Only Chance in every instance where it happens.

Interestingly enough (according to what someone said in a discussion on a Christian newsgroup a coupla years ago -- between an ex-atheist or agnostic who had converted Christian and an ex-Christian who had gone either atheist or agnostic -- one of those joy-to-read discussions where they were *very* civil with each other instead of the abusive *norm* at those Christian news-groups) in Scandinavian countries (maybe it was just Norway or Sweden) it is the CHRISTIANS who are pro-abortion and the atheistic humanists who are the core of the anti-abortion movements (according to that one fellow who *lives* there... i think he was Norwegian... He came-across as being of the well-informed sort). That made far more sense -- to me -- than the way it is *here*!
